We've got a special treat for you. A client, looking for something contemporary, classic but yet practical to fit into her historic home in the Cotswolds. We had a look at a few ideas with her and our suggestion of Limed Oak was chosen as a perfect fit for the style of her home, creating the feeling of aged wood, whilst achieving a sense of elegance and character that only years of use could bring to any other materials.
Dating back to the 16th century, Limed Oak (or Cerused if you're from America) was a white lead derivative used as a cosmetic application by royalty such as Queen Elizabeth I. Although this paste is highly toxic for humans, cabinetmakers found it extremely useful to fill the open grain of oak planks. This finish was popular in the Art Deco era and people such as Jean-Michel Franck and Paul T. Frankl. In the 1950's this technique was very popular and was contrasted against a black stain.
These days we Lime our oak using non toxic methods so you've got nothing to worry about when we install your project in your home.
